Fundraiser for Gotti's FHO Surgery
Donation protected
Hi I'm Olivia and this fundraiser is for Gotti, my 10yr old American Bulldog with hip dysplasia. I first met Gotti a few years ago while he was in foster and it was instant love. Alas! It was not meant to be and Gotti was adopted. I thought about him many times and regretted not taking this incredible love bug into my home. Fast forward 2-3yrs to April 2022 and I'm volunteering at the county shelter where Gotti is again a resident. Again, love at first sight and I promised myself that I wouldn't let this (now senior) special boy pass me by.
On April 16th, 2022 we got our second chance! Gotti is my heart dog, my soul dog, my whole world. He treats my small seniors with such love and care. He has welcomed a medical foster and a crazy stray kitten with such grace. If you've spent time with him, then you know -- he's remarkable.
Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with hip dysplasia Jan 31st and we found it to be farther along than expected. He isn't tolerating anti-inflammatories very well, but IS a candidate for Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO). They would remove the head of the femur and allow the muscles, tendons, and scar tissue to hold the leg in place. This would relieve his pain and maintain his mobility. Walking, running, and doing the zoomies are quality of life for Gotti. Ideally he will need both hips done, but I would be relieved to just be able to have the left (worse) side done first.
I agonized over starting a fundraiser - I don't like to ask for things. Certainly not when I know cost of living is high and things are tight for many. I, myself, work full time 6 days a week and have taken on an extra job to try and make this work. Vet quoted $2k per side and I'll be doing all his rehab (~4-6wks) myself at home. Every penny will go toward surgery and after care costs for Gotti. Every penny, prayer, good vibe, positive thoughts is appreciated more than you know.
