Hi, my name is Lauren Norman and I recently moved to Des Plaines. My husband and I worked tirelessly to save up for our first home, and now that we’ve lived here for a few months, it’s apparent that our property came with nearly 2 dozen feral cats and our neighborhood/community has a rampant feral cat problem.

Earlier this week, our first official litter of kittens surfaced from under our house! In a short moment of opportunity, I was able to trap the kittens and transport them to a volunteer in Des Plaines.

I am now working with a local Feral Cat project to TNR (trap, neuter(spay), and release) this cat colony. I am also working on getting this project sponsored by a larger animal rescue. Until then (and incase a sponsorship falls through), I am working with local volunteers to organize funds for this project, as we cannot take on this expense ourselves.

With nearly 2 dozen cats in the colony, including 2 pregnant mamas, these expenses are going to add up fast. At $70-$85/per fixin’ and any potential vet bills for illness, I have set the goal at $5,000. Around $2,500-$3,000 will go directly to the spaying/neutering and microchipping required for proper feral colonies. This step is essential for getting the population growth under control. Since we are unsure of the health of these cats, I am estimating some additional funds for any emergency care that’s needed.
