On March 1, 2021, Evan lost his dad suddenly and without warning.  This left both Evan, his family, and the entire East County community devastated.  Cory had the biggest heart and was there for anyone and everyone.  He was always so positive and emphasized the good in every situation.  

Cory went above and beyond to be everything to Evan and more.  He always made sure Evan was the center of his world and the people around him. He had big dreams for Evan and was so proud of him. 

A child losing a parent in and of itself is incredibly heartbreaking.  Cory and Evan were not only father and son but best friends.  Evan's loss will not only be felt emotionally,  but one that creates an entirely new set of worries, challenges, and obstacles to overcome. 

Dave and Heather Zimkin have put together this fundraiser along with the Rattler team to help raise funds for Evan.  Cory was a close friend to both Dave and Heather as their boys grew up, went to school, and played ball together in El Cajon, CA.  Dave also coached Evan for nearly 10 years on both the Rattlers Baseball team and Little League.  We are asking for donations in Cory Thiem's honor to alleviate some of Evan's worries and allow him to live out the hopes and dreams Cory had for him.  Proceeds will benefit the future educational needs of Evan and keep him involved in his favorite activities with family and friends. Funds will be used to purchase sporting equipment for his upcoming high school season, high school and college educational expenses, and repairs on a vehicle to get him to and from school.  Funds will be deposited directly into a bank account that has been set up for Evan.  We want to ensure Evan lives as normal and happy a life as possible. A life Cory will look down, smile, and be proud of.
