A friend of mine's little brother was in a terrible accident and is slowly recovering. This family could use all the help and support that we are able to provide. If you are unable to provide financial support, please share!

From Citizen Times:

Ethan Farrell, a rising junior and cross-country standout at Franklin High School, remains in critical condition after suffering a brain injury during a car accident July 25.

Farrell, 16, was driving north on U.S 441 when his vehicle hydroplaned and hit another vehicle head on that was travelling southbound, according to his father, Shawn Farrell.

Ethan Farrell was transported to Asheville's Mission Hospital where he underwent surgery to relieve pressure on the left side of his brain. The surgery was successful, but he is still sedated and in the intensive care unit as of July 27, according to his father.

"You're not supposed to see your son in this position," Shawn Farrell said. "I'm the one who is suppose to be in the hospital, not him. It's awful, but right now all we can do is wait and see. It's only been 48 hours, you can't expect him to walk around. When you have a brain injury, they want to give you time."

Shawn Farrell said his son was visited by his cross-county team and coaches in the hospital on Saturday.

"He's the most spirited kid on our team," Franklin cross-country coach Melissa Ward said. "If you could pick someone to be our leader, he'd be it. We know he's a fighter."

Shawn Farrell said that Ethan was taken off sedation for a few minutes after the surgery and was able to move his fingers and toes on his left side. He also praised the first responders who attended to his son on the scene of the accident.

"It's going to be a long battle, but he is strong and he's fighting," Shawn Ferrell said. "Time will tell. Please keep praying for him. That's going to be the biggest thing that anyone can do to help us right now."
