My name is Rhys and I have been suffering with extremely painful periods for over 10 years, since I was 14. This has severely affected my life and because of the pain I have missed school, university and work.
Having had a consultation with a doctor specialising in endometriosis excision surgery in Athens, I am now saving to have this procedure which will hopefully change my life for the better. In contrast to ablation, this treatment lasts longer, the stage of my endometriosis can be properly assessed and I can book it within a months wait. On the NHS this referral would take years and going private in the UK would cost a lot more.
Since March, I have been suffering from Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) and am being treated for it. Since being treated with antibiotics, I remain in severe pain, with two or three days in the week spent bed/house bound, the cause of this pain is still being investigated but is most likely connected to underlying endometriosis. Because of this I am unable to reliably work and so cannot raise the funds by myself.
I haven't received treatment for endometriosis before because I was not informed by my doctors about the condition and how badly it can affect your life and wellbeing. This surgery will let me me live my life as I want to and allow me to pursue academic and professional goals without pain.
I am forever grateful to my friends and family who have supported me through this, I cannot thank you enough <3
