Fundraiser for Elaine Bell (Price)

We have so many new residents here in Coffman Cove it is important for me to refresh everyone’s memory, new residents, and long-time residents, on actions Elaine has taken for Coffman Cove, that will all still enjoy today.

Elaine Bell (Price), moved to Coffman Cove in 1980 and was a resident of Coffman Cove for 32 years. Through her work at the City of Coffman Cove she worked hard along with others in the community to incorporate Coffman Cove as a 2nd class city, including land entitlements providing opportunities for many residents to purchase land in Coffman Cove, and the construction of our water and sewer treatment plant through Village Safe Water. She advocated for economic development in many different avenues, timber, fisheries, through the fish enhancement program, including putting in the work for funding for the construction of our new school, post office, community library, and clinic. She worked diligently with the Federal Highway Administration to pave the main highway into Coffman Cove, providing good paying jobs for the residents of our community. Continuing with the paving of our city streets, she was instrumental in creating the Scenic By-Ways route on POW, IFA Board representative for Coffman Cove, construction of the ferry terminal, providing out of pocket donations for holidays for children in the community, an active member of the Coffman Cove Civic Club and many other organizations in Coffman Cove and on POW. She worked to acquire an Arbor Day Grant for beautiful trees in our community, and wildflowers we all enjoy! Elaine has been such a huge part of Coffman Cove and the community we are today. There are literally too many things she has accomplished to list here for our citizens and town.

Now she needs our help. Seven years ago, she had lower extremity bypass surgery on her right leg, which has failed. After visiting Virginia Mason her vascular surgeon did not recommend another bypass surgery. A year after she developed a hematoma, they attempted another bypass which failed, initiating the removal of her right leg. Moving into recovery and rehabilitation she acquired a blood infection requiring the removal of her left leg.

Elaine is currently residing in South Carolina by her children and grandchildren in a travel trailer. Due to zoning designations on her son’s land, they have been evicted. Elaine and her husband Mike have a home in Haines which they desperately wish to return to. Being in and out of the hospital for a long period of time has led to additional expenses. I am working to raise $10,000 for Elaine to make the journey home to Haines.
