Help Doug Miller recover and return to Sawdust
Donation protected
Douglas Miller, local historian and beloved member of the Laguna Beach art community, well-known for his painting, photography, and violin playing, has been hospitalized twice with sepsis. Doug has been a one-man institution at Sawdust Art Festival for the past 45 years, and due to his injury he has not been present. His recovery is coming along slowly, and it remains to be seen when he will be well enough to return.
Sawdust is his primary source of income, and during these two months he usually makes just enough to sustain him through the rest of the year. He is 77 years old, and he has been staying so busy and active that his age has been just a number up until now, but it finally caught up to him. We may need in-home nursing, and we aren't sure how all of the medical bills will shake out.
There has been an enormous outpouring of support, with lots of people asking how they can help, and this is one way you can. Doug is missing income by the day. On top of the unforeseen expenses, there are groceries to buy and bills to pay, and we don't know yet what to anticipate in the times ahead, but whatever amount you're comfortable sending will help a lot.
We are completely overwhelmed by the generous support all of you have shown in just six hours. We had no idea so many people would want to give to Doug and our family. As many of you know, his major income happens in the summer. It looks like he is going to be out for a couple more weeks at least, and we have no idea what to expect with the bills. Many people have written to us and asked us to increase the goal. Truthfully, we probably need a lot more than $10,000, so we will do that even though it is against our inclination. Thank you so much to everybody in the community who is supporting our dad.
