Fundraiser for Doug Burton’s medical care.

Our names are Stacey Hyland and Cara Burton and we are raising money on behalf of our family for our father, Doug Burton.

As many of you know, our lives were changed forever on May 30th, 2023 when our parents were hit by a drunk driver. Our amazingly wonderful step-mom of over 35 years, Rhonda Burton, was killed instantly and our dad has been on a slow path to recovery ever since with significant mental, physical and emotional injuries. He has received care in several settings over the last month, including the ICU, a specialized trauma unit, acute rehab and was recently moved to a group home. His physical injuries are mending and he is regaining a lot of his strength. Dad continues to suffer, however, from a diffuse axonal injury (DAI), a type of traumatic brain injury (TBI), which makes independent living at this time too risky. He is therefore in need of long term care. Dad will require in-home medical care as well as regular physical, occupational and speech therapies and caregiving in the group home.

Despite the fact that Dad and Rhonda were financially responsible, the cost of his care is already great and likely to be astronomical over time. We are currently basing our request for this amount on an estimation of two years of costs. This money will supplement his own contributions to his care over that time.

Dad is a fighter, and in so many ways, a walking miracle. We have seen much progress and we hope and pray along with all of you that he will be able to return home to full functioning and independence.
