We’re reaching out to you all to talk about our beloved Devan Thatcher. Devan is a loyal friend and daughter. She is selfless and kind to all who know her. She is an amazing dog mom and a dedicated hairstylist with countless clients that rely on her and whom she has come to know and love over the last decade. Why are we talking about Devan on this GoFundMe forum? Because a series of unfortunate events in 2020 have left her in a terrible position both physically and financially.
In May, through no fault of her own, Devan was involved in a devastating car accident that resulted in a head on collision. This accident took everything that is Devan’s life away from her in an instant. She could not walk, she could not work, could not drive and her independence was gone. She needed major surgery to have her right foot and ankle reconstructed. In addition, she experienced a serious concussion from the impact of the accident and is still feeling side effects from the trauma.
As time went on Devan seemed to be on the road to recovery, until she was dealt another unforeseen situation. Devan was blindsided and had to suddenly move from her home, causing an extreme amount of stress and heartache. Devan was forced to quickly transition from living with a loved one, to living alone with no one to assist her in the healing process. She was not able to walk yet without a walker or scooter and had no one to help her with daily tasks.
Devan’s world was turned upside down again, when she developed a severe infection in her foot. One of her surgical incisions were not healing properly due to stress from her abrupt rehoming and having to care for herself at a time when she couldn’t walk. Unbelievably, she needed surgery for a second time to remove the infectious tissue and reclose the wound. The infection was worse than expected, and after having to spend another two days in the hospital after surgery, it was determined that Devan would need to undergo a vigorous cycle of antibiotics, administered intravenously at home for the next 2 months.
We are campaigning for Devan primarily to cover the financial burden of these medical expenses. Her disability has not been approved, her insurance does not cover the cost of an IV PICC line, and she will not be able to work for the foreseeable future. Devan is currently paying out of pocket for her antibiotics. Soon she will run through any monies she has left and will not have access to the medical care needed to get her past this infection and onto the healing process.
The funds will be allocated to both Community Surgical, who is providing Devan’s medical supplies, as well as towards monthly expenses Devan cannot afford on her own right now without income or disability.
Her family and friends are asking for any donation amount you can make. Please help our girl get well, heal from this trauma and move forward to a more positive chapter of her life. We appreciate you taking the time to read this. Thank you from all of us!
