Fundraiser for Destination Imagination Globals

Help “Technical For Real” get to the Destination Imagination Global Finals competition!

Destination Imagination® (DI) is a global, volunteer-led nonprofit organization that hosts Team Challenges

for students who want to take on the entire creative process—from imagination to innovation. Students

participate in DI in 48 states and 30 countries! In DI, teams of students solve open-ended, STEM-

focused challenges and present their solutions at tournaments. Each team selects their category, then tackles the challenge, without any adult help or intervention (except to teach them a new skill, which they could then do on their own to complete a task).

On March 2, 2024, Fernbrook Elementary sent seven teams of fourth and fifth graders to the MN Affiliate

Finals tournament at Coon Rapids Middle School. Team “Technical For Real” designed and built a pinball

machine out of wood, that uses a size 3 soccer ball. Their pinball creation needed to have

three different elements of a pinball machine and keep the pinball going in play for as long as possible,

while also telling a story of a hero. They earned second place in the Pinball Heroes contest

and have been invited to Globals in Kansas City, Missouri, in May!

Each team that registers for Globals must pay a team entry fee (plus travel and lodging). These boys

are excited about the pinball machine they created, and have ideas of ways to improve it

even more, and they want to take it to Globals. But they need your help! The Global competition has a

team entry fee of $5,500, plus travel and lodging.
