You may notice that “Beach Dave” has not been around town lately with his pick up stick and bucket cleaning up the town. As some of you already know David Kushneriuk was injured in a boat explosion on Saturday night in Ganges Harbour along with his good friends Tyler and Jay Seagrave. Dave has been in critical care at Lady Minto Hospital on Salt Spring Island and has been sedated most of the time to control the pain. They do not have the facilities there to take care of his injuries so he has been transferred to Victoria today to the burn unit at Royal Jubilee. He has second and third degree burns to about 15% of his body. His legs have third degree burns from above his knees to his ankles He also has second and third degree burns on his face, arm and hands. We want to thank everyone who has reached out to both of us with heartfelt messages and phone calls. The support of family and friends is very important for his recovery right now. A lot of people have asked about helping out financially. We do know that we don’t have a lot of support available on Salt Spring Island for these types of injuries. We were told tonight that he will be in this hospital for at least 3-6 weeks if he doesn’t get an infection. He will be looking at travel expenses back and forth to Victoria as well as any other expenses. We don’t know when Dave will be able to return to work, we will take it a day at a time. Dave is strong and he will get through this. As soon as he is well enough he will be working on some more characters with googlie eyes to spread around town!
