Fundraiser for Darcy (Rogers) Prins

Darcy (Rogers) Prins has always been a very hard worker, sometimes working two or three jobs at a time in order to support her family. Even at home she constantly has projects going on around the house and yard. She has been in the automotive industry most of her life, working at a number of local auto recycling shops throughout South Dakota. On April 12, 2024, she’ll celebrate her 20-year anniversary with Nordstrom’s Automotive. Outside of work Darcy loves racing, cows, her family, and God.

In January 2023, Darcy fell sick. She went to the doctor, and was informed she had pneumonia. Later that month she noticed she was still wheezing even though she felt better, so she decided to return to the doctor. They diagnosed her with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and prescribed steroid treatments. She started experiencing shortness of breath in early May and decided to visit Urgent Care. Another x-ray showed pneumonia again. A CT was ordered on May 10, and she received the terrifying news that there was a spot on her left lung that looked to be cancerous.

Additional scans and testing ensued and on May 22, Darcy was informed she had small cell carcinoma metastatic cancer. They found clusters throughout her chest and abdomen, and another spot on her hip. The doctor advised without treatment, she only has 3 to 6 months to live. Her other option was to begin a very aggressive treatment plan immediately. Her first round of chemotherapy was three days long, beginning May 24. Radiation treatment occurred over a five-day span, from May 31 to June 6. She’ll continue chemotherapy every 21 days for a total of four sessions.

A treatment plan this aggressive takes a huge toll on the body. Darcy and her husband, Darin, both have already missed a significant amount of work. Between travel, medical expenses and the bills of everyday life, they are experiencing a financial hardship. We are hoping to raise funds in order to help them during this troubling time.
