Fundraiser for Dana Quinn

Story

My name is Dicsie Gullick, and I have been friends with Goldie Quinn for all our lives, and she is like a sister to me. Unfortunately, her husband, Dana, has a terminal illness, and I would like to ask for everyone’s prayers and, if possible, any financial assistance you can provide to this family. Dana has Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), which is a hardening of the lungs. There is no cure for this disease, and it is always fatal. IPF basically turns all those balloons that inflate and deflate as we breathe into concrete, rendering them unable to exchange oxygen. Dana’s lung function was 25% in the summer of 2021, only a few months after his March 2021 IPF diagnosis. Dana was told that he likely had “maybe a couple years or so" to live unless he can get a lung transplant. Ideally, he would need 2 donor lungs, but if only one matching lung is available, that will allow him to survive. Dana was referred to USC in Los Angeles for the Transplant Evaluation Process, and that is where the Transplant surgery will take place if the opportunity is granted. The evaluation started in April 2021 and stopped in July after some underlying health issues were discovered. Those issues were addressed, and the Transplant Evaluation Process was restarted in January 2022. It is now time for the Quinns to make many trips back and forth from their home in Porterville to LA for testing, procedures, and various appointments associated with the Evaluation Process. While these trips and overnight stays in a hotel are necessary, the expense is taking its toll on this family. Now, gas prices have skyrocketed along with everything else. In addition, Dana is scheduled to be at USC for 4 days in early April, and again for 3 more days near the end of the month. As he will not be in-patient at the hospital during these days, they will need to stay in a hotel near the hospital. More tests are tentatively scheduled for May and June. The goal of all of this is to get Dana placed on the organ waiting list and ultimately, to have a match become available, and for him to undergo the transplant surgery. Once Dana is blessed with donor lungs, he and Goldie will need to remain in Los Angeles, near the hospital, for 3-6 months. Meanwhile, their teenage son will be cared for at home, and taken to visit his parents as allowed by the doctors. The Quinn’s will need to maintain their home in Porterville while also living in Los Angeles for several months. This expense is not something the Quinns can afford financially, but they also cannot afford not to do everything possible to give Dana the opportunity to see his young son reach adulthood. Dana and Goldie have requested prayers for their situation. They are strong in their faith and confident that the Lord will provide for their family throughout this experience. As you can imagine, this has already taken a significant toll on them emotionally, and financially. If you are able and willing to donate in any amount, no matter how small, it will be greatly appreciated. I am hopeful that we will be able to come together in support of this family and hold them up in prayer, as well as helping to ease the financial strain.
