Donation protected
Fundraiser set up by Shashank Kurra, Atharva Beesen, Ravi Badale, Yushua Khurshid and Shyam Patra
While the mass agitation surrounding the COVID epidemic in this country has gradually decreased, the same cannot be said for the current situation in India.
India is currently facing a devastating second wave of the coronavirus epidemic and the country has been hit hard in terms of both widespread shortages of oxygen and medicines as well as shortages of basics such as beds and staff. Both case numbers and deaths have skyrocketed with a new variant of the virus running rampant in the country. This new variant is affecting as much as 20% of the population who take a COVID test. For context, WHO have recommended a minimum case positivity rate of 5% before easing lockdown restrictions. Train carriages, stadiums, coaches and sports halls have all now become temporary medical centres, armed with a dwindling supply beds and oxygen tanks to deal with the current state of affairs. Even mass funeral pyres are being arranged due to people ‘dying like animals’ as social activist Jayant Malhotra – who is currently in India helping with crematoriums - describes.
A covid relief fundraiser will be taking place to provide support for India on Tuesday 4th May from 6 to 7pm. The fundraiser will include multiple guest speakers on the topic, and it will touch on how you can donate and what a donation would mean to those most affected. I would greatly encourage everyone to come along and come together to help India in this moment in which they need us most.
