Fundraiser for Carly’s brain surgery

We're reaching out to ask for your help in supporting our amazing mum, who urgently needs a brain shunt to relieve pressure caused by hydrocephalus — a condition that’s putting her life at serious risk.

In 1998, when Mum was just 24, she became suddenly and severely unwell with a brain infection called encephalitis. At the time, her children were only 3 and 1 years old. Despite the enormous challenges that followed — especially with her mobility — she’s spent the last 25 years courageously rebuilding her life with love, resilience, and strength.

Sadly, after a recent fall, doctors discovered she now has hydrocephalus — a buildup of fluid in the brain. Since then, her condition has rapidly declined. She’s showing dementia-like symptoms, and without urgent treatment, the pressure on her brain could lead to permanent damage — or in the worst case, sudden death.

Due to long NHS wait times, we’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to seek private treatment to give Mum the best and fastest chance of recovery. After consultations, we’ve been referred to the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London — one of the UK’s leading neurological centres — where they’ve quoted £17,500 for the surgery and care plus over £4000 in further costs and follow up scans.

This is far more than we can raise on our own in the short window of time she has, and that’s why we’re turning to you — our friends, family, and community that’s she’s been part of for 50 years — for help.

To reach this goal, we’ll also be fundraising through local events and physical challenges in the coming weeks. Every step, every effort, and every donation will go directly toward helping Mum get the treatment she so desperately needs.
