Most people who know Brian heard about his struggles with back, leg and neck pain for the past few months. Multiple doctor visits, massages, acupuncture and chiropractor visits did not alleviate the pain or diagnose it. After experiencing severe pain towards the end of June, Brian went to the ER in Duncan where diagnostics revealed cancer that has metastasized to his bones in several areas throughout his body. It was discovered that the neck pain was from a pathologic fracture and it was decided that he would have a rod inserted into his femur to prevent it from breaking due to a legion on that bone. Brian has had radiation treatments and is recovering well from the surgery.
Complete biopsy results took weeks to receive. The results revealed that Brian's cancer is due to a genetic mutation, which he was born with. Because of this, Brian will begin a tablet treatment (as opposed to chemotherapy and immunotherapy, which is now "plan b"). The tablets are taken at home daily and do not have as severe side effects as chemo. This is great news, as there has been proven success with these new treatments focused on the genes. When more information is available, we look forward to sharing!
Until then, Brian is unable to work as the primary income earner in the household. Please know that Brian is surrounded by an incredible support network (including all of you), and he is as comfortable as possible, fighting this battle one day at a time with his loving wife, Cara, and his two beautiful children beside him every step of the way.
