Hello,
We are fundraising for our beautiful friend, co-worker, and her family.
Little Bowie was 17 months old, and only four weeks ago, his mum, Tamika, was given the worst news possible. Bowie was diagnosed with a Mitochondrial Disease called Leigh Syndrome.
Leigh Syndrome is a severe, incurable neurological disease that primarily disrupts the body's energy production and the central nervous system.
The disease is rare, affecting 1 in 40,000 children, and sadly, Bowie is one of these children.
The treatment for this focuses on managing symptoms and supporting the quality of life.
Over the past four weeks, symptoms appeared a lot quicker than anyone was expecting.
After spending the last week in the ICU, Bowie couldn’t breathe on his own.
He was put on a BiPAP oxygen machine to help him breathe.
Bowie’s brain started to die because it was not getting the right amount of energy to function, causing issues when breathing. The machine wasn’t enough for him, and on Thursday, 30th July, Bowie sadly lost his battle with this rare disease.
We are trying to raise funds and spread awareness of this horrible disease to support Bowie’s mum, Tamika, nan, Kellie, and their family through this hard and horrible time.
