Fundraiser for Bastion Community of Resilience
More than a million people were still without power in Louisiana on Tuesday morning, two days after Hurricane Ida crashed into the state’s coast as an extremely dangerous Category 4 storm. Louisiana communities are now facing the prospect of no electricity for weeks, the Associated Press reports. Ida caused “catastrophic” wind damage and flooding in some areas and continues to deposit heavy rainfall.
The full order of damage became apparent on Monday when dawn broke over a blacked-out region. Firms are estimating the storm could have racked upwards of $15 billion worth of damages.
The veterans who selflessly served our country and returned home with special needs are especially challenged as now they face navigating a natural disaster, the destruction of their homes, and recovery on top of the daily struggle to meet their mental, physical, and emotional needs. We are determined to help support these heroes in their time of crisis.
Led by Dylan Tete, Bastion Community of Resilience is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in New Orleans, Louisiana, supporting returning warriors and families through their transition from military service and beyond by providing a healing environment within an intentionally designed neighborhood. We are dedicated to helping this partner organization provide relief and support through recovery from Hurricane Ida for these heroes.
THE CHALLENGE WE FACE
Currently, Bastion is working to provide the following to members of their community who were hardest hit by Hurricane Ida:
Temporary housing
Transportation
Special needs including medication & mental health services
All funds raised in collaboration with Acadiana Veteran Alliance and Military Connected Capital will be used for these purposes. We estimate 50 heroes and their families need $1,000 to cover the cost of temporary housing, transportation, and special needs through the end of the month.
