On August 8, 2020, the lives of Emma Montes Silva and her family were changed forever, due to domestic violence. It started as an ordinary day, but ended in unspeakable tragedy and pain for her entire family and community. Emma's husband became unexplainably enraged and suddenly shot Emma in the face. He then shot and killed Emma's oldest, 22-year-old daughter Selene, and also shot and grievously injured Mariana, one of Emma's 14-year-old twin daughters, before killing himself.
Initially, Mariana was mistakenly believed to have been killed from being shot in the face, therefore she did not receive emergency medical care until an hour later, when it was observed she was still breathing, she was then rushed to the hospital, but it tragically compromised her injuries. She lost her left her eye, suffers right sided paralysis and lost the ability to speak.
My family is so very grateful for all of the generosity and support we have received from our relatives, friends and those of you we don't even know, who have chosen to generously give from your hearts. Emma is at home recovering from her injuries and is by Mariana's side as much as possibe. Mariana is still struggling to survive on a ventilator in the intensive care unit in the hospital, with a pending brain surgery as soon as she can tolerate it. The financial burden is overwhelming, therefore we would deeply appreciate any assistance and prayers.
