Fundraiser for Avery Nicole
Donation protected
Avery celebrated her 2nd birthday on February 21st in the hospital, just after being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Avery was born with Downs Syndrome, and at that time Dr.s made Heather Porter, her mom, aware that Avery had a chance of also developing Leukemia. Since birth, Avery has undergone routine bloodwork to monitor any indications of developing Leukemia.
Approximately 4 months ago, the bloodwork started showing abnormalities. At that time, Avery started undergoing weekly blood draws, along with two bone marrow surgeries. After the recent 2nd bone marrow surgery and further testing, Avery was diagnosed with AML. On February 17th, Avery received a platelet infusion to improve her safety to then undergo surgery to place a broviac catheter in her chest. This catheter is being used for her chemotherapy treatments, and medications needed. She was then admitted to the hospital, where she and Heather will spend the next month.
Avery has a 4 year old brother, who will be staying at home with other family members. He has recently been sick, so is unable to visit his sister and mom during this time. Needless to say, both Heather and Avery missed not being able to spend Avery's birthday with him.
Heather is a single mom, who holds a fulltime position as a Therapy scheduler for Avidity Home Health. She manages to excel not only at her place of work, but also as a deeply loving and supportive mom to her two children. Heather always has a warm smile and maintains humility in all aspects of her life. She is highly respected and admired by her co-workers, friends and family.
Heather demonstrates the drive to provide both finicanially and emotionally for her children, however spending the next month in the hospital will pose many challenges of its own. AML is rare, fewer than 200,000 US cases per year are diagnosed. It can progress rapidly, and requires radical treatment.
Along with covering Avery and this family in prayer, we are asking for donations to aid Heather in continuing to provide the care needed for her children and herself. We would like to ease any stressors we can for Avery and her family, and would like to ask you to donate as you feel lead.
In closing, we would like to share a recent post from Heather Facebook page " Faith does not mean trusting God to stop the storm, but trusting Him to strengthen us as we walk through the storm"
God bless this little girl and her family!
