UPDATE: 

All of Audra’s scans have come back and they showed that the tumour is localized to her L2 and no where else! This qualifies her for Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT). She will be getting two treatments of the SBRT to help with the short term goal of pain reduction and tumour shrinking. With this said she’s a very unique case and these treatments put her at a greater risk of fractures to that area in the future. Oncologist will be discussing with colleagues to decide which hormone therapy is best for Audra in hopes the cancer does not metastasize or as Audra likes to say “misbehave” as it’s not friendliest of words. If the cancer does “misbehave” she will then start a very intense chemo protocol, our fingers are crossed this does not occur. Audra will also be starting a monthly IV drug treatment for minimum 2 years if not for the rest of her life to help with bone strength and other side effect. The doctors believe they may have caught the cancer early, and with that we hope this give her the best chance at recovery. Audra has made it very clear to me that the term we use in regards to her cancer are important to her “Misbehave” not “Metastatic” being number one. She’s in good spirits, less angry and more driven.  She continues to have an extremely positive outlook on her situation but as she knows this is still a very long journey ahead. We continue thanking you for all the support and good wishes. Beating cancer once is a job in itself but twice requires a little extra love and support.

Audra Turner is an amazing women who many know in life and at the hospital. She is loyal positive, fun, loving, and so very hard working mother and grandmother. Audra has made countless long standing relationships in her 7 years of nursing, and has worked hard on the front lines of this pandemic at Kelowna General Hospital.

 

Audra is a 51 year old strong women, who has been down this journey before. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017, fought hard, and we were looking at her being 5 years cancer free this year. She has since had multiple reconstructive surgeries, and shown everyone around her so much perseverance. Audra was finally getting back to the life cancer had rudely interrupted. She spent the summer with her grandkids, friends, and working hard. Audra was out enjoying her new found health when she suddenly fell off a paddle board onto rocks beginning of July. After months of pain and discomfort she had an x ray showing a fracture on her L5. The doctor played it safe and sent her for a CT. This CT showed what we had feared, Audra’s cancer had returned but this time settling on her L2.

 

Now, Audra is not the kind of person to ask for, or accept any help; but we all know that Audra’s only job right now is for her to fight like hell and kick cancers butt once and for all! With all the emotional stress cancer brings, the hope is we can we can lesson the financial burden just a little.

 

Miss Audra’s zest for life and love for all around her are her greatest assets. Audra treats colleagues and patients with so much respect and kindness, the hope is to show her a little of that in return. Audra is an absolute pleasure to work with, she will always take the time to listen to you and her laugh fills a room with smiles. Beating cancer once is a job in itself, but twice requires a little extra love and help.

 

Audra has her oncologist appointment at the beginning of December and we will know more then. We appreciate any help for this amazing women.
