Fundraiser for a Real Homeless Blind Man!

Donation protected
My name is Derrick Anderson and I am raising money to help my homeless totally- blind friend to get a stable place of his own that he can call home. His name is Cedric Mitchell and we became friends in college over 23 years ago. Over the last several years, Cedric has had to endure some pretty tough and unimaginable struggles especially for a person who can’t see. Aside from a few of us who know and love him, he is all alone with nowhere to go and no one to turn to.

It has been an epic failure and a downright disgrace that he can’t even seem to get services from the very organizations that are suppose to help him. What’s even more unbelievable is how he has even been turned away by the, Lighthouse For The Blind when he asked for assistance with finding housing. He has been denied access to housing by homeless shelters via the telephone because of the inherit risk that comes with him being blind.  There was even been a time when he had to sleep in a car just to stay safe and out of the elements that come with being homeless. I can’t help but hurt for him because I can actually see first hand what he is going through.

Who is Cedric Mitchell?

Cedric is a loving father and a kind and forgiving individual who will help anybody that he can. He is originally from New Orleans where he was born and raised. Cedric is the father of one child who he rarely gets to  spend time with because of his living uncertainty. More importantly, Cedric is a warm-hearted and decent human being who is more than deserving of the opportunity to rebuild his life and reclaim his full independence.

As his friend, I try to spend as much time as I can with him because I want him to know that somebody cares about him. However, I have a family that I am responsible for.  Needless to say, I want to continue helping my friend until we raise the money that will be necessary to get him a stable place to live.

Despite his hardships, he always seems to have a pleasant attitude and a warm spirit regarding life and his circumstances. He often tells me how he never wants to see anyone (especially another blind person) have to go through what he has been through over these last couple of years. Hopefully, we can all come together and give him a hand up; so that he can finally begin to overcome this painful chapter of his life.

Together, Cedric and I are trying to raise $10,000  to help him get a place to live along with some essential items that he will need. He is the beneficiary and will have sole discretion over the use of the funds. All monies collected will be deposited into his personal account where he is the only person listed. For me, it’s just about making sure that he has someone that he can trust to look out for his best interest.

The money will be used to cover the down payment along with six months rent on an apartment. A portion will be used to get him a computer that he can use. Each month, a portion will be allotted for his living expenses. Meanwhile, Cedric will be acquiring the necessary training to prepare him or another viable employment opportunity.

Would you please help me share this message, so that we can all pitch in and help Cedric, to find a safe and warm place that he can call home? Please give what you can. It doesn’t matter how big or how small; anything is appreciated. This holiday season, let’s bring some light and joy to a person whose world is filled with complete and utter darkness.
