Hi!

We are Gender Trouble F.C., a newly formed football club based in North London. Our team was founded by masters students studying the London School of Economics' Department of Gender Studies who moved to London from around the globe and were seeking new ways to make friends and build a home away from home. As we continue to grow in spirit and community, we are fundraising to purchase new jerseys to replace our winter gear as we head into our spring season.

We compete as part of the Super 5 League, which is a grassroots 5-a-side football league based in Hackney (London) established since February 2017, where women and non-binary people of all levels are welcome. As a group of students pursing a variety of degrees in Gender Studies, we are proud to identify with a league that seeks to shake up the status quo of men's football culture and provide a safe space for gender minorities to pursue their love for football.

Our team name, an ode to our shared connection to the Department of Gender Studies, is taking from the groundbreaking book of the renowned post-structuralist gender theorist and philosopher Judith Butler, titled Gender Trouble: Feminism and the Subversion of Identity. Just as Butler puts forward the notion of gender being a performative and societally constructed notion in their writing, we play our games with the intent of challenging stereotypes on gender and community-building in the heavily patriarchal global sports industry.
