We are fundraising for life saving cancer treatment for Emma

But I would walk 500 miles (and I might walk 500 more!) da-da da da!

Jen and I are committed to walking 500 miles between 1 July to 1 September, to raise funds for our friend Emma's lifesaving treatment.

For those who may not know Emma, we first met over 10 years ago at a British Military Bootcamp fitness class. We quickly bonded over our shared dislike for burpees and our mutual love for a cold pint of cider after workouts. Emma is a ray of sunshine, fiercely loyal, thoughtful, kind and supportive. She trained me for the six half-marathons I ran a few years ago (and even ran a few of them with me!) to raise money for cancer charities after a close family member was diagnosed with breast cancer. Now, it's our turn to repay her kindness.

Emma carries the BRCA 2 gene and was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2022. She bravely underwent a double mastectomy in early 2023, making an impressive recovery. Just five months post-surgery, she participated in The Dragon Ride to raise money for a cancer support charity alongside her (now) husband, Eric. They cycled an impressive 98km with 1314m of climbing, raising £1,480.

Unfortunately Emma's journey took a challenging turn a few months ago, when she was diagnosed with a rare form of pancreatic cancer known as Adenosquamous carcinoma, which accounts for less than 4% of all pancreatic cancers. Despite this, Emma remains determined to fight this disease. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy, a crucial part of her treatment plan. Additionally, there is a ground-breaking procedure called NanoKnife, or irreversible electroporation, which uses electrical pulses to target and destroy cancer cells while preserving surrounding healthy tissue. Unfortunately, NanoKnife is not covered by the NHS and comes with a hefty price tag of £18,000. This cost is a significant burden for Emma's family.

Any contribution, no matter how small, will bring us closer to our fundraising target and give Emma a fighting chance against this aggressive cancer. Your generosity will directly support:

- The cost of the NanoKnife procedure

- Associated medical expenses

- Emma's ongoing treatment and recovery

Your donation will not only help cover a crucial aspect of Emma's treatment but also provide her with hope and strength to continue her battle against cancer.

Please share Emma's story with your friends and family to help spread awareness.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity!
