We’re raising money to support a truly remarkable young woman who has shown incredible strength and determination in her fight for recovery. Due to the sensitive nature of her condition, especially as a younger person, she has requested to remain anonymous. In October 2022, her family received the devastating phone call that she was gravely ill in the hospital. She had been admitted for an unrelated illness but tragically suffered multiple strokes in the early hours of the morning. She was rushed to critical care but her body shut down and went into a coma, later being diagnosed with “locked-in syndrome.” For weeks, her family sat by her bedside, praying for any sign that she was still with them, feeling completely helpless as they faced the most difficult and heart-breaking moments of their lives.
Incredibly, despite doctors initially dismissing her small movements as “involuntary,” she showed her family that she was still fighting - she was letting them know she was there. Then, just as things seemed to get better, she battled through double pneumonia and a COVID diagnosis on New Year's Eve. Even with these obstacles, she continued to fight. After being transferred to a neuro-rehabilitation hospital, she was able to return home just before her 21st birthday -an amazing milestone after everything she had been through.
Today, she is truly an inspiration to everyone who knows her. Doctors had told her she would never walk, talk, or eat on her own, that she would need to be fed through a tube for the rest of her life. But she has defied those expectations at every turn - she is eating normal food, speaking, and regaining movement, all thanks to her extraordinary determination and hard work.
To continue her recovery and regain even more mobility, she needs a power-assisted exercise bike to improve blood flow to her left side, which remains paralyzed. Unfortunately, these bikes aren’t available through the NHS or social funding and cost over £6,500.
We’re coming together as a community to help raise the funds for this vital piece of equipment, which will play a crucial role in the next phase of her recovery. Her journey has been nothing short of miraculous, and with our support, she may one day regain the independent mobility that so many people her age take for granted.
Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference in her life and help her achieve even more of the amazing progress we’ve already seen. Thank you so much for supporting this incredible young woman and her inspiring journey - she is a true warrior, and together, we can help her keep winning.
