Funding Young Adult Pilgrimage in Portugal

Four young adults from St. Vincent de Paul Church in Philadelphia, PA will be attending World Youth Day in Portugal, July 30 - August 7, 2023. World Youth Day (WYD) is the gathering of young people from all over the world to make a pilgrimage, come together in fellowship, receive a message from the pope, and celebrate the universal Church.

Jeanna Murat, Dorina Opferman, Louise Tessier, and Emmett Schweiger were selected to travel to WYD with the archdiocese of Philadelphia by participating in the Young Adult Missionary Discipleship Initiative.

The Young Adult Missionary Discipleship Initiative (YAMDI) involves formation as missionary disciples and preparation for pilgrimage. YAMDI participants are called to bring back the fruits of the pilgrimage experience and put to use missionary discipleship training in their home parishes by leading faith groups for young adults.

Thanks to a generous grant, the cost for Jeanna, Dorina, Louise, and Emmett to attend WYD as YAMDI participants is $1500 per person. This fee is paid to the archdiocese of Philadelphia to finance the portion of the flights and lodging expenses not covered by the grant. Any funds raised beyond the $1500 fee per person will be utilized for other travel expenses not included (passport fees, food, etc).

Jeanna, Dorina, Louise, and Emmett are currently undergoing spiritual formation, preparing for pilgrimage, and planning for the post-pilgrimage experience of leading young adults at St. Vincent de Paul.
