Hey there, friends. We've organized this GoFundMe to try to help out Clay and Emily Wilkey with medical bills and living expenses. Clay is currently in the midst of an extended stay at Vanderbilt Hospital, and Emily is staying in Nashville to be with him. We would like to ask that if you are able, to please help them with their costs in their time of need.
Clay was originally hospitalized on Sunday, March 22. He was admitted when it was revealed that he was suffering complications from a brain tumor that he has dealt with repeatedly. He was mentally preparing to face what would have been his fourth brain surgery in attempting to combat this tumor when he was presented with a new challenge. During pre operation blood work, it was discovered that Clay also had leukemia. The decision was made to move Clay to Vanderbilt for an extended time as he undergoes aggressive chemo treatments.
In the process of finding that he had a tumor, and then that he had leukemia, Emily was only able to have limited access to Clay. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals are limiting access to patients from even immediate family members. For much of this ordeal, Emily has been forced to live out a worst nightmare scenario for any wife, knowing how incredibly serious Clay's condition was, yet being unable to be with him. She has come to Nashville to be close to Clay, and is being allowed limited access while the doctors attempt to treat his leukemia.
Anyone that knows Clay knows that he has always been the first to offer help to a friend. In fact, he is as loyal to his friends as anyone I have ever known. He has been someone that will do whatever it takes to meet the needs of others, a product of his servant heart and strong faith. Those that have known Clay have invariably been touched by his kindness and generosity at some point, whether it was use of a truck, building something, or offering his expertise to a cause. Clay is, and always has been, a giver, of his time, talents, money, and heart to those he feels he can help. Now, when he is unable to work, and Emily is trying to stay by his side, his only real request in this entire process, we ask that his life of generosity could be rewarded with generosity in kind.
This is not something Clay has asked for or knows about. We, as friends, are asking those whose lives Clay and Emily's kindness have touched to help alleviate some financial burdens during their time of need. No amount offered is too small, and all help is welcome as we seek to offer assistance with medical bills and normal expenses while both are unable to work due to Clay's illness. Your generosity is appreciated toward two people that have given so freely for much of their lives.
