Hey there! My name is Madison Nicely and I am the proud owner of one of the sweetest pitties in the whole world.
This bestest boy has been with me since he was just a pup. Taking the title of ultimate chow hound and number one people pleaser, he’s never met a stranger in his life. One of his favorite things is to sit on your lap and lay on the kisses. And though he's a potato at his core, his other favorite activity is going on bunny-hops through the woods. He adores hopping around like a bunny and racing around all the tree obstacles. We’ve done these adventures many times in the past and I didn’t think anything of it when we went for a walk on September 17. But this time the adventure ended up with Diesel in a lot of pain.
At first, all I knew was that he was not acting like himself at all. Instead of a constantly wagging tail, he was shivering and whimpering and moving as though he was twice his age. I suspected a snake bite and didn’t wait around. His usual vet worked him in but they were also unsure as to what had happened. The only certain thing was that he was in a lot of pain. It was clear we needed specialized help and from there we were referred to the emergency vet.
The fantastic staff at the E.R. vet went to work and fell in love with Diesel. Despite the immense pain that he was in,he never failed to try to wag his tail and steal a kiss from them during the examination.
Finally, after multiple tests the results came back. During his time on the trail Diesel managed to get a foreign substance (maybe a stick or branch) lodged in his neck. This sweet boy, who had been having so much fun, was now in severe pain and in desperate need of surgery. The options were clear. It was this surgery or euthanasia for this two and half year old pittie who seemed to have so much life ahead of him.
To make matters worse, the foreign matter is in a really tricky spot. It’s between a lymph node and his artery. The vet said that Diesel got really lucky that it didn’t just outright puncture his artery. He laid it out in plain terms that this will be a challenging surgery. But if Diesel can get through it, the vet is really optimistic about his recovery. There are inevitable risks, but they know exactly where to go and what they need to do for this situation. It just comes down to finances and if Diesel is able to pull through.
At this point, his overnight bill is already over $2,000 alone. The estimated surgery will be anywhere between $6,000 to $8,000 to start. Incredibly expensive and much beyond the funds that I have on hand. But even so, I just can’t bring myself to give up on this sweet boy who wants nothing more than to be at someone’s side. If there is a chance, I have to give it to him.
To that end, I’ve taken out credit and given the vet the go ahead for Diesel’s surgery.
As I type, Diesel has just come out of surgery and has hit a rough patch. There is a good bit of bleeding and the vet is having to do a carotid tie off to help stem the flow. Things are uncertain and I'm not sure what will happen next. But I want to do everything I possibly can for him. Any funds will go towards helping me with his past and future expenses from this event.
Though a part of me feels ashamed for this, I’ve also decided to reach out to you all and your generosity for any help and support possible. I know this is so much to ask and give to a random girl and her dog. I don’t blame anyone for thinking I’m crazy to spend this much and go this far. But he’s family and I can’t give up.
If you have the ability to help support my cause, just thank you so so much. I can’t express how much it means to me.
If you can’t afford to give anything, just know I appreciate you so much for even taking the time to read this!
Thank you all so much for your time and support and please cheer Diesel on for me!!
