Funding Skyla’s Final Wishes and Memorial

Donation protected
In a recent heartbreaking tragedy, my little sister lost her life and her battle with addiction. After many years of health issues due to use, she fought against blood infections, sepsis, endocarditis, and vegetation on multiple organs. She fought hard and always had hope and motivation to get clean and sober. Skyla endured open-heart surgery to have her valve replaced, multiple blood transfusions, daily infusions at the hospital, and many other procedures and medical trips. In the end, her disease won, and my mother and I got the news that she would not survive her last relapse. We got the call from ICU that she had arrived by ambulance, and the attending physician wanted us there right away, not knowing if Skyla would make it through the night since her limbs and organs had begun to shut down. Her skin had become necrotic, and five organs were failing. We exhausted all our options and advocated for her to get another heart surgery, but with how sick she was, no surgeon would take on her case. Within one week, we were talking about and moving to end-of-life care in hospice. Exactly one week into hospice, Skyla took her last breath. This has been a heavy and devastating time for my mother, her 11-year-old son, and myself. Skyla was a beautiful, happy, and kind soul. She loved and laughed a lot and always left a mark wherever she went. Our family is doing the best we can to hold each other up right now and love on her sweet boy for her. This came on quickly and ruthlessly, and we were not financially prepared for end-of-life expenses. It is important to us to follow through with Skyla’s wishes and honor her and her memory as best we can. We are reaching out to the community for help and support in this emotionally challenging time. We appreciate any and all donations towards making Skyla’s burial a possibility.
