Funding Lola with the Gift of Life
Donation protected
I'm Melodie van der Baan. I have a sister named Lola, who is diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer. This fundraiser is about giving her the gift of life.
Now, when I say sister, she came to be that through the winding ways of life. My husband's family became very close to her brother when he was just a teenager and so they have been considered family to my husband Jan for the last 30 years. And so in creating a life with Jan, Lola became a sister to me. When I met Lola six years ago, I knew she was special and different. Her gentle, humble spirit radiated and her laugh and funny remarks made her a joy to be around. You know those people who might get frustrated, but don't know how to get mad? Whose pitch might go up but they just don't know how to raise their voice? Well, that's Lola. She can find a reason to give grace and forgiveness in any situation. This dear sister to me always think about others before herself and gives of her time and talents sacrificially. Even learning about her breast cancer came as a surprise because she didn't want to burden anyone else with her load. I cannot imagine a life without Lola, as she is is one of those people who makes life better for so many.
Her inflammatory breast cancer is in the late stages and it is her desire is to take the holistic approach. Everyday, getting better has been her sole priority. She researches her cancer and her options, changed to a vegan diet, and every minute is focused on what she can do to heal her body.
She moved to Florida two years ago, so most of her friends live in Wisconsin, where she is from. Although most of her immediate family lives locally and has helped as much as possible, she lives alone and has no spouse or companion to provide daily emotional or financial support. She is already weak from the disease and currently unable to work full time, so finances are very limited.
We support her wishes in taking the holistic approach 100% and would love to get her into the Hippocrates outpatient 3 week treatment program ($6,000), located right here on Belvedere Road! People come from all over the world to receive treatment here and to think, it's in our back yard. In addition to the program, there are the services of Vitamin C and Oxygen therapies ($150 each) provided at Hippocrates a-la-carte, which we would like to be able to fund her for five sets of both ($1,500).
We have had many local friends go through this program before with other cancers and it saved their lives.
All additional funds raised will be used to assist with her daily living expenses. Lola does have a mortgage and other necessities (like food and medicine) that must be taken care of while she is unable to work.
This is what we want to do for Lola; that's what we HAVE to do for Lola. It means the world to me that if you can, that you donate. Any amount is appreciated. Once she completes the treatment, we will have a big celebration party to thank everyone who helped. We'll be thanking God in advance for the miracle he is going to do in her body and life.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for helping us give Lola the gift of life.
With all my heart,
Melodie van der Baan
