Hi, my name is Catherine and I am seeking funds to cover the cost of my home health care. I am 73 years old and was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2012. I was still mobile when, in October of 2021, I got Covid. Overnight, I lost the ability to walk, to transfer from my mobility devices, and became incontinent. After three months in skilled nursing I was able to come home, needing daily assistance with personal care and machine-assisted transfer. My husband was able to help with that care until January this year when he fell and injured his leg. The costs previously had been about $1200 each month; now that he cannot help I need more care twice each day, which will cost up to $3500 per month. I have received some assistance for funds and equipment through Multiple Sclerosis organizations, community and church, and family members. I did not qualify for MediCal due to our income, and Medicare and Anthem Blue Cross do not cover my home health care. We had maxed our credit in 2022 due to home care costs and needed supplies. I had put off asking for help, hoping for some other solution. Now I am asking for funds for a few months until my husband can perhaps help with care again.
This will enable me to stay in my home and continue with my daily tasks like meal prep, laundry and bookkeeping, which I can manage from my power wheelchair.
Any help you can share will be a blessing to us.
