Introduction to Vidya Vichaar:
Satkaarjohg Guru roop piaree saadh sangat Ji, Guru Khalsa ji, please accept our nimrataa sehaj bentee. As you may be aware, Akaal Purkh Vaheguru Ji di kirpa sadka, Vidya Vichaar sevadaars have been tailoring tuition in Gurbani Kirtan, Santhiyaa, and Tabla for almost 3 years now. We are a non-profit organization that started in 2018, with the kirpa of Vaheguru we aim to spread Gurbani in the form of Kirtan, Santhiyaa, and Gurmukhi.
We also deliver tuition in tabla and one-day strive to teach tantee saaj (Stringed instruments). These classes are available to people of all ages and backgrounds who wish to absorb the knowledge blessed by Akaal Purkh. Our ethos has existed for many years, in fact, it first started around 1997 when Bhai Surinder Singh Ji first started to deliver tuition in Kirtan at Nanaksar Gurdwara Walsall, this slowly expanded over the years to include private classes in homes with the inclusion of more sevadaars. Fast forward to the present day, Vidya Vichaar has expanded to other parts of the UK and internationally in countries such as India, Italy, and Canada. The concept is inspired by Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Sahib Ji’s saying of “Vidya Vicharee, thaan Paroupakaaree” which translates to contemplate and reflect upon knowledge, and you will become a benefactor to others. (Ang 356, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji).
Vidya Vichaar during national lockdown:
The national lockdown during the covid-19 crises was a difficult period for many, especially for our organization because it meant we could no longer deliver tuition in Gurdwaras around the Midlands as well as homes. However, with the help of the Sangat, Vidya Vichaar saw its biggest incline in popularity and growth during this period, we shifted our efforts from physical lessons to online-based using popular social media applications such as Whatsapp and Instagram, as a result, the number of students being part of Vidya Vichaar grew to almost double within last year reaching an estimation of 400 students. At the time of writing this post (30/03/2021) the UK is still in lockdown, we will continue to deliver tuition throughout this period, and even when lockdown has lifted to give tuition to students who live further away from the Midlands.
