Funding for the Makerere 6

Updates:
To all of the Supporters of the Makerere 6,
On behalf of all of the students, they want to express to you their warmest, deepest, and sincerest gratitude for the unprecedented generosity of each and every one of you. You have all sacrificed to have a hand in directly diversifying the Economics profession. I wanted to also personally express my gratitude for helping my future classmates; this cannot have happened without you.
Without going into grave detail, there have been unfortunate setbacks that have made this journey arduous for all of the students. Increasing costs of attendance, visa obstructions, and equally uncertain times in Uganda have all called into question whether or not these students can actually attend the program this fall. Thankfully, their road forward is now clear.
Consequently, there have been internal changes that have affected the allocation of funds that I would like to highlight. One of the students has chosen to defer her admission--and portion of funding-- to her classmates. With the permission of funds of a specific donor in this campaign, two students have opted to start their master’s degrees at the African School of Economics, which is the sister school of Hunter College in this HASPERE program. Three students will be starting at Hunter College (this Wednesday!). All of them are one step closer to getting their PhD's in economics.
The specific allocation is as follows:
All funds will be going towards tuition and living expenses for the 2021-2022 academic year and will be distributed based on need. The funds will be paid directly to the schools in the form of scholarships. In the event that this process takes too long, we will be using Bold as a medium to award the scholarships.
Hunter Students: $17k, $13k, $8k respectively
African School Economics Students: $8k each
Thank you all again for your support. We will be keeping this GoFundMe open for anyone who would like to continue supporting the students during this academic year.

Greetings everyone!
Approaching you is a group of 6 young, intelligent and ambitious Ugandan students who graduated from Makerere University with Bachelor’s degrees in Economics. We kindly need urgent help to enable us report to grad school by the 1st of August 2021.
Born and raised in low income families, we have struggled mightily to overcome factors that have downsized our access to quality education. Commitment to our education is the only way to make a change in our lives and low profile traditional communities. We have worked tirelessly to look for better quality education opportunities and programs that are inaccessible in our communities. In April 2021, light was shed on our dreams when we received official admission into a joint Masters program between the African School of Economics and Hunter College This program is aimed at training and mentoring talented minority students to prepare us for life changing opportunities like PhD programs in America's prestigious institutions.
Unfortunately, we are constrained by the remaining necessary funds needed for us to start school. This has presented a need for personal and group efforts to raise funds for grad school. However, we all agree that opportunities such as scholarships are very rare and limited for international students. This leaves us with minimal options and presents *crowdfunding* as an emergency resort to enable us report for the Fall semester.
We are determined to be renowned economists that will impact change in communities through our research and development policies.
We hereby humbly appeal to your humanitarian hearts to donate any amount towards our journey to grad school. Our target is $75,000 ($12,500 each) which will be directed to living expenses, travel and other associated costs.
We understand the wave of financial difficulty upon everyone as geared by this pandemic, any kind of help and support towards this campaign is highly appreciated.
Our utmost gratitude is extended to you all.
