The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals
What?
The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals! Okay, I understand if you have never heard of it before. With a book written by Nick and Matt Lang accompanied with music and lyrics by Jeff Blim, The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals is a fun, funny, whimsical, and revolutionary horror-comedy musical produced, originally, by Team Starkid, creators of A Very Potter Musical.
Why?
This is the biggest passion project you have ever seen. Picture your favorite group of friends from your favorite story finally accomplishing their one concrete goal *wink* by doing what they love with the people they love. That’s all this is! We need this money to request the rights from Team Starkid and book our venue space. Both of which are the priciest parts of this affair.
Where?
This production will be taking place at The MATCH in Houston, TX.
When?
This show will open on Black Friday and will run for Thanksgiving weekend (November 29th-December 1st).
Who?
Hi! My name is Kinley, resident theatre lover, Starkid fan, and lead producer for this endeavor! Everything you need to know about me can be found on my Instagram (@kinleybriana).
Co-producing alongside me (as well as sound designing, co-choreographing, AND creating our media) is Sarah Wolsky (@sarahwolsky), a fellow theatre lover and all-around superstar.
Directing this show is my dear friend, Matt (@whoismattbasen), New Jersey native and lover of cats, my number one choice for a director, I trust his vision immensely.
Choreography is set to be done by Reilly (@reillysdancediaries), a graduate of the SHSU Dance program, so I have no worries she’ll be setting up for the utmost success.
Designing our incredible set (It’s true! I’ve seen it!) will be our token Canadian, Chess MacElvaine (@its.c.mac).
Our stunning props designer is Efren Calderon (@treyasaurusr3x), who’s video game influence will be making huge mark on this production.
The absolutely insane makeup and costume design will be done by Ruairí Banks (@boyleafie).
Finally, for those of you who have been following this since the beginning, we have officially found our lighting designer! Kiara Steelhammer (@kikisteel) is a well-rounded and experienced creator who is certain to get the job done.
All of us love the Hatchetfield trilogy so fiercely, I couldn’t have chosen a better group of people to take this on with. Long story short, we’re all theatre kids putting our heart and soul into every step of this journey!
How?
That’s where you, dear reader, come in! My friends and I can only do so much to fund this project, so it would mean the world if you would even donate $5, because a little goes a long way with a thing like this. I’d love to share the specifics of where exactly your money will be going, so you know we mean business!
The amount of money it will cost to…
Purchase microphones:
$600
Provide insurance to the venue:
$700
Performing at the venue:
$1300
Costumes, set, props, lee-way, doing more than we expected: Everything else!
In case you didn’t notice: WE HAVE SECURED THE RIGHTS AND THE SPACE TO PERFORM THIS SHOW! Yes, it is official, this will be the Houston premiere of The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals! We are all VERY excited to finally announce everything to you! Can you tell by all of my exclamation points?! Help us reach our goal in the coming months; our next goal is to achieve $3500 by the end of April!
If you got this far, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Especially my neurodivergent pals. Creating art is something that never gets old and can never be silenced. Creating art that is healthy, enjoyable, and respectful, is a whole different ball-game, and we hope to achieve that with this production. This could be the beginning of something wonderful, and we thank you for your support, even if that is just sharing the link.
