Funding For Recovery Stroke Victim Rena Martin

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Susie. I have created this Gofundme to help raise funds to financially support my 84-year-old Godmother Rena Martin through her stroke recovery and healing in a time of great need. She was independent for a long time and this is extremely difficult for her to adjust to being dependent on others to help her. She is a loving Mother, Grandmother, and has been a blessing to her community throughout the years. We are looking to raise funds immediately to help Rena with all of her recovery needs now and in the future.

On Saturday, June 6, 2020, around 7:00 p.m Rena's daughter went into the living room to check on her mom. she noticed something was wrong. she was trying to talk and her words were coming out with slurred speech, she was talking confused and acting like she did not know her daughter or where she was at. She tried to lift her right arm but could not.  Her daughter called 911 and they immediately transfer her to the closest health facility.  Due to COVID 19, no one was allowed in the hospital with her.  Her daughter contacted the ER Doctors after 8 hours and requested them to transfer her to a stroke hospital. They did.

The neurologist and medical team determined that she had suffered an Ischemic Acute Stroke. They found a blood clot on her brain and rushed her to surgery to remove it. She stayed in the ICU for a while before going to the stroke floor. One day she was complaining of excruciating abdominal pain. The Medical team did more testing. The G. I. medical team found out she had inflammation and gallstones in her gallbladder.  They gave her antibiotics and a feeding tube. The team decided to do a procedure to put in a cholecystectomy tube to help drain the gallstones. Their hope was that all the stones would pass. After that procedure, she went back to ICU for recovery before they took her to the stroke floor again. The Neurology Medical Team after 5 days wanted to do another procedure to help the clotting of her brain.  After surgery, she had to go back to ICU for recovery, and afterward, she went back to the stroke floor for two or 3 three days until she was stable enough with her blood pressure to go to Rehabilitation so she could begin her Physical Therapy treatment.

The stroke has affected the entire right side of her body as well as her speech and memory. It caused her to have motor impairments/motor medical deficits. She loses her balance and gets weak easily. She often says the opposite of what she means. she is battling with expressive and receptive Aphasia. That makes it hard for her to talk and fully understand what is being said to her.
She is also suffering from artery vascular disease, arteriosclerosis, high and low blood pressure. The doctors are monitoring her heart, cholesterol, and sugar. The doctors said she needs 24 hours of live-in care.  She was able to receive 2 1/2 weeks of Rehabilitation before they sent her home because of Medicare Funding cuts,  which is costly for the family at this time because of COVID-19.  The Medical Team Rehabilitation Doctors order at-home therapy including the Home Health Care Team to come in once or twice a week, RN Nurse, Doctor, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and more to assist her at home when they discharge her. She is not able to live alone anymore.

UPDATE: On August 14, 2020, she accidentally pulled her Drain tube out and went back to the E.R. immediately. The doctors are concerned about why they did not contact the Surgeon so they could have put the tube back in. Now she is on high alert, monitoring her for signs of inflammation because the tube came out too soon and there are a lot of stones that were not able to pass. If complications happen they want to do another surgery to remove her gallbladder.

What Rena needs urgently, is a wheelchair that can fit her. she is 5'8 and needs one for tall people. Her Family needs a Vehicle that can accommodate a disabled person to get her to all her doctor appointments, it is vitally important for her healing and recovery Journey.   A new hospital bed that is comfortable and does not hurt her legs and back. (The one she has is broken). She needs medical  & therapy equipment, cleaning supplies, medical bills, medicine, Food: (Special Heart-Healthy Diet, help with daily living expenses, rent, utility gas, light, water, etc. help with back bills and recurring bills and everything else she needs for her recovery.

Rena can not heal properly because she is constantly stressing about all her bills which are causing her to have insomnia, unstable high & low blood pressure due to the enormous bills piling up.  Eventually, she will require Funding for Private Therapy. She has been in a lot of pain. Her Doctors say this will be a long recovery process. We do not know how long this may be exactly, but we are trying to remain hopeful.

When unexpected circumstances and tragedy happens, it's a comfort to know that our family, friends, and community can come together with love, thoughts, prayers, moral support, kindness, open and generous hearts to help someone in need.

If you can find it in your hearts to help towards my Godmother's Financial & Healing Recovery. We appreciate any financial support you can give big or small.

Thanking you all in advance for your kind, open and generous hearts.

UPDATE: Aug 28, 2020

Rena was rushed back to the hospital on Friday, Aug 28, 2020, the Medical Team determined she had inflammation of the gallbladder. They are treating the infection and doing a procedure to help her pass the gallstones so they do not have to remove her gallbladder.
