Help us through the dry-season!
Hi,
My name is Daniel Ochieng and I'm a permaculture practitioner on Rusinga island, Kenya.
The dry season is coming in two months and the KASWANGA COMMUNITY PROJECT needs Your help to buy water tanks for the livestock and irrigation.
The KASWANGA COMMUNITY PROJECT was founded in 2019 mainly for the purpose of creating stable, productive systems in our community that provides for our needs, harmoniously integrating the land with people. This has been achieved by practicing permaculture. But every year so far the drought hits us hard.
We have a very well-designed permaculture demonstration farm. I am very happy with the progress we have made in the last 2 years. We have been able to decrease poverty in the community by offering trainings to the locals on how to grow crops using the permaculture principles and ethics. Our demonstration farm usually acts as a point of reference for that.
We are proud to have different varieties of plants here on our farm: Medical plants- neem and moringa, fruits trees- oranges, mangoes avocados passion fruits guavas and bananas, Nitrogen fixing plants- beans and groundnuts. We also have cassava, maize, potatoes vegetables of different kinds etc. We also run permaculture courses at our demonstration farm.
We usually face severe drought for almost 4 months starting from September to December. This has a serious impact on our crop plants and really demoralizes our members. The farm is about 600 meters away from water. It really forces the members to carry water on their head that distance 5-6 trips a day in order to get water for their plants. It usually takes us 4-5 hours a day. During dry seasons, these trips are not even enough. The plants that we have are been struggling throughout the year may end up wittering and dying.
We were planning to have water tanks fitted with pipes and pump. We can pump the water into the tank store and help us during dry seasons. I am sure by doing this, we can save our plants and help our members.
We will also wish to have enough tools that can easen our work there at the farm
We will very grateful any donations,
Thank you,
Hello,
I am Martin a millennial from Antwerp, Belgium. Daniel Ochieng reached out to me to help him gather fundings for his project. GoFundMe doesn’t support Kenya therefor i am the middle man! You can trust me for transferring the money correctly to Daniel.
I believe that Daniel is a Legitimate farmer in Kenya. You can look him up on Facebook and see for yourself!
