We are Bill and Susie Fehr and we are setting up this funding page in hopes to help Jake and Mary Martens with their medical costs.

In December of 2021, Mary suddenly developed a condition in the right side of her head called Trigeminal Neuralgia, which is when a blood vessel and the trigeminal nerve come into contact and it causes chronic pain affecting the trigeminal nerve in the face. The trigeminal nerve carried a sensation to the right side of her face causing her pain and tingling. It always broke out at its worst when she would eat, talk, laugh, etc.

Jake and Mary sought medical help in Canada as quickly as possible, but with the long delay in appointments and not much positive help there, they decided to travel to Mexico in hopes to receive help sooner. In June 2022 they attempted driving to Mexico but were rejected at the border. They then booked flight tickets and flew to Mexico a couple days later. They found a doctor that specialized in her condition that was able to help her, but only through surgery. He was positive about moving forward with Jake and Mary’s consent but he also mentioned that he could not perform surgery without God’s help. They decided to move forward with surgery because Mary wanted relief of her condition.

On July 4, 2022, Mary went in for surgery. Open surgery is generally the most effective surgery for this condition but it’s also the most invasive because it requires opening the skull through a craniotomy. During surgery, Mary lost a lot of blood and they did a sudden blood transfusion, which was an additional cost. Mary’s surgery took almost 7 hours. She went through a few very rough days after surgery but her condition slowly improved and she was discharged on Thursday July 7, 2022.

Ten days after surgery, Mary had to see the doctor again to remove stitches. The doctor

said things were looking good and whenever she felt well enough, they could travel

back home.

Jake and Mary booked flight tickets and flew home on July 30, 2022. They were away from home for about 5 weeks with their five beautiful children.

The cost for their medical expenses

was $37,000.00 CDN. On top of that yet was their stay in Mexico and also their flights. Medical expenses and surgery is something that we usually don’t plan for and often it comes very unexpectedly. Jake and Mary need our help!
