A film project by Genevieve Lotus and Nici Barabasch, starring Dain Dunkin as Lucky.
Gasoline is going to be a 60-90 minute long film inspired by radical new queer cinema of the 90s and low budget scifi. It is a collaboratively written film project, with a crew of friends and family. It is about the feeling of impending doom in a place that is affected by climate change and gentrification, making it less and less livable. Told through the story of Lucky, a pregnant woman who, believing her child is an alien, goes on a roadtrip through central Texas to return her baby to the forth dimension to escape time. On her journey through the exaggerated, alternative universe Austin, it’s hostility is countered by the genuine and empathetic encounters she makes while doing various app jobs to sustain herself, such as dog walking and ride sharing.
We were able to secure a portion of the necessary funding already through school, and this campaign is to raise the rest of the money to pay our actors and crew and make this project financially viable. As film enthusiasts and artists, we strongly believe that independent narrative films are both possible on a small budget and culturally important to tell stories that are not represented by larger studio projects.
