Funding for Badock's Wood Bristol

Badock's Wood is a Local Nature Reserve in North Bristol.

Here we are in 2025 and we have more plans for Badock's Wood.

English Bluebells have been planted, thanks to our volunteers and more conservation work takes place every month.

The money you have donated has paid for new birdboxes around the site. Donations will also be put towards the replacement of the steps - there are three sets of wooden steps around the site. This work is being undertaken by ParkWork for us.

We are hoping to replace the seating in the Triangle area and when the steps are replaced, we may get some sleeper style benches along the riverside, to keep cool and tranquil in the hot summertime in particular.

A bit of history ...

On 1st May 2022, Badock's Wood became one of the 70 Ancient Woodlands in the UK designated as part of Queen Elizabeth II's Green Canopy in celebration of the her Platinimum Jubilee. In celebration of this we have worked with One Tree Per Child and volunteers including local primary school children to plant new trees in 2022 and 2023 - a Jubilee Wood - and local sculptor Andy O'Neill sculpted Jubilee Bench - see photo. The benches, sculptures and other projects in the wood are funded by public donations.

Badock's Wood is a living habitat for wildlife and after several years our much loved sculptures like our green man, are being reclaimed by nature. We would love to provide new wildlife and woodland inspired sculptures and benches for everyone to enjoy, We also need to refurbish steps and other valued areas of Badock's Wood.

Friends of Badock's Wood was set up by local community members to enhance Badock's Wood in North Bristol and we continue to do so more than 20 years later. But loving this hidden haven for wildlife is not enough. We want to continue to look after it and provide exciting and interesting nature and environment information, activities and fantastic sculptures for everyone to enjoy. Our project plans can be seen here http://www.fobw.org.uk/projects.php

Badock's Wood is a public open space - open freely to the public 24/7. It lies between Southmead, Westbury on Trym and Henleaze. From a neglected site in the late 1990s the local community, working with local organisations and the City Council, turned this space into a wonderful local nature reserve and we continue to work to help manage the site for people and wildlife. 

No matter how much or how little you can donate it will be spent on Badock's Wood.  Thank you.

 Friends of Badock's Wood does not charge for membership nor have any paid officers. We are all volunteers working together for the woodland, meadows and rivers of Badock's Wood and its wildlife and community.

Friends of Badock's Wood is a constituted community organisation and copies of our constitution, annual reports, financial reports and annual general meeting minutes can be viewed on our website.
