Funding Andrew's Fight Against Mental Health Crisis
Donation protected
- My name is Kim, my husband is Andy. We have a 29 year old son Andrew. He has 2 sons ages 6 & 7. 3 years ago he started having mental issues. He has since been diagnosed with Schizoaffective, bi polar, & Psychosis. He's been in and out of the hospitals. He's on medicine as long as he's in the hospital but when he gets released he feels he's better and don't need to continue them. On March 8th, 2024 he was released and dropped off at a homeless shelter but turned away because they don't open the doors until 2 pm and it's a 1st come 1st serve basis (plus he would be high risk with his diagnoses and not continuing his meds) His dad & I have been trying everything to get him the help he needs but in the meantime we've been paying for a everything. Just since March 8 we have paid over $3500 between the motel & food. We have been advocating for Andrew in so many ways. We've contacted the Governor, Lansing, the hospitals, news stations, CMH, & everything else in between. He can't come stay with us as it's too dangerous. He has said he wishes we were dead, he would slaughter whoever came to his property, that everyone of us are clones amongst many other things. Now we've been to court 2x to try to get guardianship and we have another court date May 22. In turn that means we've had to take off work for these days. We never thought we would ask for help but we are running out of funds. We don't want him to be out on the streets it isn't safe for anyone if that happens. We've filed for Disability, have him on waiting lists for low income housing, have a transition center set up for him the only thing in the way is he don't take his medicine or isn't medicine compliant. That means places won't accept him until that happens. We have no help in sight as of now we are just trying to do what's best for our son. We know everyone is going through stuff but we are stumped on what to do and afraid we will be homeless ourselves if we have to continue to do this. Everyone who knows & loves him can see him deteriorating in front of them. His eyes are empty. Mental Illness is no joke! His dad & I wouldn't wish this on anyone. We understand laws are put into place to protect the person but sometimes it's needed to keep a person safe. We are lost. We say we are mourning our alive son. We're just asking for help & compassion this is hard to ask from anyone.
- Thank you in advance!
