Funding a Performance on Human Rights & Embodied Experience

Support the production of a new performance work engaging with human rights, empathy, and ethical responsibility.

Hi,

my name is Sharka Rey, and I am a performance artist working with the body as a site of political, emotional, and ethical inquiry. I am raising funds to support the production of a new performance piece which takes place in Switzerland on Feb 14th.

Since June 2025, my practice has been shaped by involvement in human rights initiatives connected to Palestine. In September/October 2025, I participated in the humanitarian mission Global Sumud Flotilla, which was intercepted one day before reaching Gaza; all participants were illegally detained in Israel before deportation. This experience of vulnerability, enforced waiting, and solidarity forms the starting point of the work.

The performance reflects on my experiences with the Global Sumud Flotilla and engages with questions of human rights, justice, empathy, and care. It examines the responsibilities of both states and individuals in upholding human rights, and ultimately asks whether empathy, as it functions today, is sufficient — and what it truly demands of us.

The funds raised will cover essential production costs, including rehearsal space, materials, technical support, documentation, and related logistical expenses.

Overview of Expenses:

Venue Rental: 1200chf (6 days rehearsal + 1 day performance)
Technical Support: 900chf (10h rehearsal + 1x performance support)
Travel & Art Residency: 780chf (Travel 400chf + art residency 380chf)
Material & Props: 400chf (Ropes, small objects, lights)
Documentation: 700chf
Bar Staff: 160chf (4h)
Artist Fee: 2000chf (Dedicated time for research, rehearsal, and performance)

in TOTAL: 6140chf

The budget reflects essential production costs only and excludes full-time artistic labor, additional art residency, and unforeseen expenses.

Money collected at the entrance of the performance art venue will be donated to a pro-Palestinian initiative, which will be selected at a later stage.

By supporting this project, you are helping make this work possible — materially, ethically, and artistically. Every contribution, no matter the amount, directly supports the realization of the performance and the labor behind it. Thank you for taking the time to read, support, and share this project.

With kind appreciation,

Sharka Rey
