Q: Who are the creators?
Zdravo! We're Kalina and Nevena. Sisters - born in Macedonia who moved to Chicago at the age of 12 and 8. Music runs in our veins; our grandfather played for the Koco Petrovski Orkestar well known for its classic recordings of “Makedonsko Devojce” and “Pajdusko Oro.”
We are constantly involved in advocating for Macedonian human rights. In the past few years, we've launched the Macedonian documentary "The M Word," written Macedonian folk music & created unofficial anthems for both the Macedonian National Football Team & the handball team Vardar- all because we love Macedonia.
Darko is a family affair… Kalina is the narrator/singer and I write the music. Kalina is a social media expert for a marketing agency and I am a full time songwriter with diplomas in Language Education and Songwriting from Berklee College of Music.
Darko Biberko’s songs have been watched for over 24 million times since we’ve begun our show late 2018. Our YouTube analytics show that Macedonian kids from all over the world (Australia, Canada, US, Greece, Bulgaria) are tuning in to learn Macedonian with Darko!
Q: Why did you create a musical learning show in Macedonian?
We launched Darko Biberko in 2018 after the birth of our nephew Damjan who will grow up to live in an English-speaking country. We wanted to create fun educational material that will help him develop basic linguistic skills in Macedonian.
Q: Where will donations go?
We write the music and create the curriculum and we have an animator and illustrator with whom we work closely to create the storylines. Your donation will help fund costs related to music production, recording, illustration, storyboarding & animation.
