The Unemployment Compensation Appeals Clinic, Inc. was founded in 1984 for the purpose of student advocates (supervised by attorneys) to assist claimants for unemployment benefits at their hearings and to provide training and experience for the law students in representing these claimants when litigating these cases.
Nearly 100% of clients served are below 300% of the federal poverty level (FPL), and a majority are below 100% FPL. The clinic is a non-profit organization qualifying for 501(c)(3) status.
The funds being raised will primarily cover the clinic's operating expenses, and the largest of these expenses is to compensate the law student serving as the clinic's administrator. Outside of this single person, the clinic is staffed by volunteer attorneys and volunteer student advocates.
