Fund the Black in the Maritimes News Show

Since July of 2016, Black in the Maritimes has provided a platform for the voices and lived experiences of Black people and other visible minorities across the East Coast of Canada (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI).

We are also uncensored to raise awareness and speak out about the injustices and systemic biases that impact the everyday lives of Black and Indigenous people, newcomers, other visible minorities, or anyone facing systemic injustice.

In the last few months, it has become obvious that we need to do more! Now is the time. We need your help to ensure that we can increase our reach, amplify more oppressed voices, and talk about solutions to ensure we have a better future for all in the Maritimes and beyond.

How can you help? We are looking to broaden our operations by purchasing additional equipment including;

• 2 cameras (economic, portable models that will produce a good quality video)
• lights
• one computer
• microphones
• ad dollars to reach a larger crowd through social media marketing

and eventually
• a permanent physical location to host the show

As we grow we will learn about other potential equipment/resources that will allow us to get additional contributors on board - to offer new, interesting, higher quality, professional looking formats meant to appeal to a larger crowd, and move beyond our current audio only format. Our goal is to share stories – hard to find stories that have long been forgotten or ignored by mainstream media. The story tellers are people of colour or visible minorities that rarely are profiled, or whose voices are under-represented.

Our one uniting cause is to fight against the unfair treatment of visible minorities throughout history and today. In addition to highlighting systemic injustice, it is our goal to change the ingrained, unfair, inaccurate stereotypes and images media, and institutions have taught Maritimers (including East Coast People of Colour) ABOUT People of Colour. We are people like everyone else, and as diverse as all life on this planet in our interests, hopes, dreams, fears and opinions. We are actively searching for Artists, Engineers, Doctors, Lawyers, Producers, Scientists, and more to highlight everything we are though stories and our podcast.

We need your donations. If you are in the East Coast and can think of other ways you can help bring this vision to full life, please reach out to us!

Please help us bring these stories to life and change perceptions one day at a time, one-by-one, and also systemically!

Follow us on Facebook or Instagram,  or visit www.blackinthemaritimes.com to view our content, ask questions, experience our podcasts, and more.

Thank you.

Black in the Maritimes was founded and run by Maritime residents Fidel Franco, co-hosted by Marcus Marcial, and now also co-hosted and co-produced by Clinton Davis, with other occasional guests to the show.
