Hello Everyone! My name is Tsiambwom Akuchu. I am a street dance and theatre artist based in Los Angeles, and I am creating an evening-length dance-theatre performance; Market Demographics. I would love your support in bringing this vision to life!

A Bit About The Show!

Market Demographics is a Street Dance and Physical Theatre work creating a unique performance experience. The show is centered around race and identity, specifically looking at how Black and Brown male identities have been defined by the legacy of slavery within an American context and as a product of a patriarchal society. The work uses multiple Street Dances (Bboy, Krump, House Dance, Hip-Hop, and more) and Physical Theatre as the mediums of movement through which the narrative unfolds. It asks: what does it mean to be a man, a person of color, and someone who identifies as male in our contemporary context? The show is premiering in Los Angeles in June and in New York in July.

Why You Should Support!

First and foremost, I believe in being innovative in live performance and representing stories and perspectives that have historically not been seen on theatrical stages. Street Dance, Social Dances, and dances from the African diaspora are a rich tapestry of movement and expression. Bringing these forms to the stage in creative and abstract ways is something fresh and new in dance and theater.

Secondly, as you may already be aware, it takes a lot to put a show together, and the unpredictability of life can exacerbate those difficulties. Between venue rentals, rehearsals, artist pay, costumes/props, and the myriad of other things required to create a performance, it can be a lot for one person. However, the best way to overcome obstacles is through community. I would love for you to join me and the other creatives involved in getting this project to performance.
