Fund to Support Walljasper-Ristau Family

When Jay Walljasper was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer in September 2020, it brought an abrupt detour to a life with his wife, Julie Ristau and son Soren Walljasper. Jay's life was dedicated to finding and sharing what makes great cities.
After 3 months of medical intervention which, sadly, did not result in halting the cancer, Jay passed away on Dec. 22, 2020. As Julie and Soren manage deep grief at the sudden passing of a beloved husband and father, they now face an unexpected future. Gratefully, they are blessed with a wide circle of friends who love them.
Soren is a skilled sailor who has sailed far and wide from his beginnings at Bde Maka Ska, and Julie developed a keen interest in sailing along the way. Now it’s time for us to be the wind in their sails and help Julie and Soren navigate the coming year with our love and support. We each have different gifts to offer in support and for some of us it may be through financial support.
Jay lost several months of income. Medical and funeral expenses are daunting. We would like to help Julie and Soren forge their path forward and lift some of the burden they carry as they rebuild their lives. They need breathing room to figure out what comes next. Their life of generosity and giving can be matched by our own determination that they will not walk alone through this time.
