Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read my story.

After more than ten years working as a social worker, I made the courageous decision to change careers and follow my true passion—education. I recently earned my teaching license and am now a Special Education teacher, a role that has truly captured my heart.

I am also a single mother of three, and I currently work two jobs to support my family. While teaching is deeply rewarding, the reality is that educators are often underpaid unless they hold advanced certifications. Becoming Nationally Board Certified would allow me to grow professionally, increase my earning potential, and continue providing stability for my children—while becoming an even stronger advocate for my students.

I was raised in a single-parent household alongside my siblings, and education played a pivotal role in my life. My teachers didn’t just teach me academics—they fed me, gave me a safe place to rest when I needed it, and encouraged me in ways that changed the trajectory of my life. Because of them, I learned the power of educators who truly pour into their students.

Although I enjoyed my years in social work, I discovered that education is my true calling. I began my teaching journey in Biology and Physical Science and ultimately found my home in Special Education. I work with both functional skills and instructional resource students, and each one holds a special place in my heart. I love what I do, and I am committed to giving my students the very best version of myself.

To become Nationally Board Certified, I must complete four required components, each costing $475, along with a $75 initial registration fee. Total cost: $1,975.

This certification is an investment not only in my career, but in my students, my children, and the future I am working so hard to build.
