Fund Velvet Penny’s Music Video for ‘Yudith’

Hello Friends!

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about my next video project, ‘Yudith’ a track off of my debut album, ‘All the Flowers’and a continuation of my prior video, ‘All the Flowers.’

The music video for ‘Yudith’ has been in the conceptual stages for the better part of 2023 and into 2024. Developed is the story, mission, location and logistics. We have slowly been able to raise a portion of the funds needed by selling merchandise throughout 2023 & 2024, but now are asking you to springboard this concept into actualization with the help of financial aid.

About Velvet Penny

Velvet Penny is the music project of Marlena Martinez that operates at the intersection of art and activism. Through her recent record, ‘All the Flowers’ Martinez dedicates her work to raising awareness for domestic abuse by sharing songs, video and organizing community events.

Past Works

All the Flowers music video was created in dedication to raising awareness for domestic abuse and served as a catalyst for free, accessible, community events that invited folks to learn about healthy relationships, create art, move their bodies, and showcase their talents.

The video was awarded best Music Video by Synergy Film Festival in Los Angeles, has been recognized for its design by Inland Film Festival and was selected to show in Buenos Aires International Film Festival, Los Angeles International Music Video Festival and Millenium Film in Brooklyn, New York. The release of the video also made it available for viewing at CASA Pitzer for a series of four months in Ontario, California within an interactive exhibit that encouraged attendants to interact with the props used in the video and reckon with their own shadows.

‘Yudith’ Mission

The story of ‘Yudith’ is a continuation of ‘All the Flowers’

‘All the Flowers’ portrays the naivety of walking into an abuse situation that leads one to their demise and the only way of coping is through escapist tendencies of being in one’s own imagination and world.

’Yudith’ finds the character now in the aftermath of leaving an abusive situation. The viewer is guided through aspects of shadow work that come with facing shameful deposits of abuse and further showcase the choice to transform them. From becoming consumed by darkness to having the choice of transcendence, these concepts display the complexity of healing’s non linear nature and pose the questions, How do we cope with trauma and what happens when we indulge in self destruction that take us further away from ourselves?
