Dear friends, supporters and theater lovers,
We invite you to be part of our upcoming production of Euripides’ powerful anti-war masterpiece, The Trojan Women.
This is a co-production between Eclipses Group Theater NY and LaGuardia Performing Arts Center, bringing together two organizations committed to presenting meaningful, community-centered work. The production will be presented this May at the Little Theater at LaGuardia Performing Arts Center.
At a time when our world is once again overshadowed by conflict, displacement and profound moral dilemmas, this timeless Greek tragedy feels more urgent than ever. It reminds us, with striking clarity, how history repeats itself—and how the human cost of war touches most deeply those left behind.
The Trojan Women portrays the destruction of Troy and the immense suffering of the women in the aftermath of the city’s fall. Centered on Queen Hecuba and her daughters, the play confronts themes of enslavement, loss and forced migration with devastating emotional power. Though the Greeks emerge victorious, the gods condemn their brutality, foreshadowing their downfall. Through its unflinching lens, the play reveals the enduring consequences of war—the violence inflicted on women and children, the trauma of exile and the moral cost borne by both the defeated and the victors.
This ambitious production brings together 14 actors and a team of approximately 20 artists. It will feature live music, including original compositions created specifically for this performance, deepening its emotional and atmospheric resonance. Our multicultural cast of professional actors—from diverse backgrounds alongside Greek artists—offers a truly global perspective, shaped by a rich tapestry of voices and lived experiences.
For over a decade, Eclipses Group Theater NY has been dedicated to reimagining Greek classical works through a contemporary, intercultural lens. This production is led by the company’s co-artistic directors: Ioanna Katsarou, who directs the production, and Demetri Bonaros, who has created a new, vibrant translation and original music score. Together, they bring a deep personal connection, lifelong passion and artistic commitment to the Greek classics.
Your support will help us bring this important story to life and share it with our community at a moment when its message is needed most.
