Fund the short documentary Eco, Montaña!

Fund the short documentary Eco, Montaña!, that highlights the legacy of grassroots leaders fighting to protect our forests in Honduras, one of the most dangerous places to be an environmentalist.

Over the last 30 years, Honduras has lost a quarter of the world’s 4th largest rainforest to deforestation. It is also known to be a notoriously dangerous country to be an environmentalist, as was made evident by the murder of Berta Cáceres in 2016.

Eco, Montaña! follows one brave community's journey in their fight to protect their sovereign lands in Honduras against many tangible and intangible roadblocks in their way.

Talented Denver director José Chalit recently visited Honduras in June 2025 to film a documentary for Colorado nonprofit Trees, Water and People. While there, José got connected with and interviewed community leaders and environmentalists such as Doña Justa Nuñez, a local matriach, to bring awareness to the legacy of environmentalists in Honduras and beyond.

Studio Equiterra is committed to supporting José Chalit and Trees, Water and People bringing this story to international audiences. As a small nonprofit, José's time at Trees, Water and People is split across various projects in the organization. Having enough time and capacity to edit a full documentary with the scope and impact we know Eco, Montaña! will have can be difficult.

Studio Equiterra is committed to making it possible. We are donating an in-kind 50/50 match. Whatever you can help us raise, even just $10, we will match in donated editing hours up to $2,000. If we can raise that much funding that would give us 80 hours of editing to help José finish the documentary and honor the incredible environmentalists in Honduras.

“Since meeting Romeo & Jensen, I dreamed of the three of us collaborating on a project. Their commitment to authentic, impactful storytelling, and our shared passions for sustainability, equity, and film as a tool for change make them the ideal collaborators to edit Eco, Montaña!. We would like to finish the film before 2026 in order to submit to film festivals and have a successful distribution campaign, and I am so thrilled to have Studio Equiterra’s support. Thank you for helping us make this dream a reality!” - José
